If a child is born while you are abroad, you will probably
want to register the birth in Britain. You can do this easily with apostilles,
if you want your child to be sure of having British nationality. You may also
need to have a birth certificate authenticated if a child is traveling with you
to live in another country.
If the child was born in the UK you need to send the
original birth certificate to Apostilles so that it can be verified as original
and legal. Please remember that only original documents can be authenticated.
Photocopies cannot be given an apostille.
The benefits of having a birth certificate authenticated
with an apostille are that the child has proof of identity and as a parent you
have proof of your responsibility for the child. An authenticated birth
certificate makes traveling between countries easier, and the birth can be
registered in another country as well as in the UK.
It takes about three or four working days to get an
apostille for a birth certificate and the documents will be mailed to you by
first class post, or by Apostilles courier, whether you are in the UK or
abroad. Your child can use the certificate for proving age and nationality if
the occasion arises, in any country which is a signatory to the Hague
Convention.
Sometimes you need to have an apostille for a death
certificate, especially if the deceased died abroad, or had property, a bank
account or assets in a country other than the UK. Lawyers in another country
often require an apostille attached to documents relating to the deceased,
before they will act to transfer funds or property to the inheritors. Without
an apostille, this may not be possible.
Normally apostilles for death certificates can be arranged
within five working days, as long as the death has been properly registered at
the appropriate registry office.Visit https://legalizationservicecentre.ca/
